Communications and Research Manager, CIHDR
Toni Cipriano-Steffens, after receiving her masters of arts in communication from Purdue University in 2006, joined the Center for Interdisciplinary Health Disparities Research (CIHDR) at The University of Chicago as a Senior Research Professional. The focus of her graduate work included using rhetorical criticism to both examine hierarchical power structures and deconstruct cultural beliefs and bias within American society. She also studied physician-patient communication in terms of health outcomes with an emphasis on how prognosis affects patients through their constructs of hope and/or acceptance. She now serves as the Manager for Research and Outreach Communications where she works with Drs. Olufunmilayo Olopade and Blase Polite in developing and managing interventions to improve health outcomes for disparate populations in breast and colon cancer.
