What Is Your Risk of Cancer

Approximately one in two men and one in three women will develop cancer at some point in their lifetime. However, some people have a higher risk of cancer than others. Our genetic counseling program benefits those individuals at an increased risk of cancer. You should schedule an appointment with the Cancer Risk Clinic if:

  • You have a history of cancer in your family
  • You have relatives with colon cancer or polyps
  • Your mother or grandmother has had breast cancer
  • Any woman in your family has had ovarian cancer
  • You have considered taking a genetic test for cancer

You can calculate your estimated risk of breast cancer using the Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Tool developed by the National Cancer Institute and the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project.

For more information about the risk of breast and other cancers, check out our fact sheets.
