Genetic Counselor

 

Sarah A. Jackson is a genetic counselor who is licensed by the state of Illinois and certified by the American Board of Genetic Counselors.  She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology at Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, Mississippi, and then earned her Master of Science degree in human genetics at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, New York. 

Prior to her employment at the University of Chicago, Ms. Jackson established the first Genetic Counseling Clinic in the Veterans Affairs Healthcare System in Little Rock, Arkansas.  While there, she played a key role in establishing a new Genetic Counseling Graduate Program at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, including serving as Interim Program Director.  She has served as thesis advisor for multiple genetic counseling graduate students.

Ms. Jackson has delivered platform and poster presentations at conferences of the American College of Medical Genetics and the International Society for Psychiatric Genetics, among others.  Her research interests include the prophylactic surgical decision-making process of young adults.
